New PC...

Been looking around at some PC´s lately and have come across the Acer Aspire M7720. Has the i7 processor and costs around 1199€ here. I don´t want it for anything other than gaming. There are a few nice looking games that are around the corner, where my poor Mac will just not cut it, due to it´s subpar graphics card.

I will be pairing it with a 26" monitor, so intend to run in fairly high resolutions.

What are your opinions? Also if anyone has any personal experience of this machine, can you tell me if it is quiet. It is a mega important factor for me, and this fact seems to be omitted from reviews.

Will also be running 64bit vista on it to take advantage of the additional memory.

looks pretty good, I would check with them on the position of windows 7 there should be some sort of free upgrade available.

thanks Arab. I am a little wary of the PSU being a little underpowered, would really like to know how loud the thing is. In my experience gaming pc´s usually sound like there is a jet engine beside you.

Windows 7 is complete plop imo. I didn´t think it could be possible to make an OS even more unintuitive than vista, but somehow they managed it....gratz MS. A free upgrade to windows 7 is included with it anyway should I ever decide to bother. (unlikely). From the benchmarks I´ve seen performance gains are marginal, and in some cases not even as good as Vista.

Was thinking on this as a monitor: http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/tftm...yncmaster+t260
Saw it on display in the local Mediamarkt for .... 460€. lol. Needless to say I´ll be getting it online if they won´t haggle ^^, I like haggling.. :-)

Yep the PSU does look a bit weak at 500w esp given that will be a max rating and not a sustained output. The GFX is also confusing the specs under the pic say ATI further down it says nVidia.

As for Windows 7 I dont like it as much as XP but I like it more than vista, they have made a few nice changes and performance wise I think it is quite a bit better but then I have not really gamed on it and I am just going from my perceptions as opposed to benchmarks.

I think Windows 7 is actually better than XP even. I've been using the 64 bit version on both beta and RC as main OS from day 1. Whereas XP seems to slow down over time, with installs etc. Windows 7 just doesn't seem to suffer from this problem.

It boots up amazingly quick too. I tend to turn on my work lapdog first in the morning, then the desktop. This desktop has around a 5 decade bios screen too (oh let me check how many HDDs. Oh, look you have lots of USB devices, let me enumerate those for you now.. Oh memory eh? etc etc).

I'm still sitting at a fully running machine with MSN/email up and running on here before laptop is done.

And how do you know it's MS that's offering the free upgrade and not just the OEM?

I agree Win7 is easily the best OS MicroShaft has ever created. I'm definately going to buy it on release.
